108 Sun Salutations: Summer Solstice

Sipping in the sun!

Prepare to honor the arrival of the sun (finally!) and its life-giving properties ushering in summer, the best time of year in Milwaukee. As tradition demands, we will be practicing 108 sun salutations to build, move, and activate heated energy in our bodies as a community, friends, and neighbors. 108 salutations are a challenging practice, but completely accessible, that push the body into meditative movement and encourage us to break open the innate strength we’ve forgotten we hold. It’s a powerful experience!

Afterward, Central Standard Distillery will be satiating our thirst with samples of their refreshing summertime cocktails, the garage door will be wide open, and we can hang as a group and enjoy the summertime evening together. Relax and unwind.

Cost: $25 (includes cocktail samples and class)

New Moon and Divine Mother Mala Making

New Moon and Divine Mother Mala Making

The new moon is an auspicious time for creation. It is said that the veil between the spiritual plane and the physical plane is thinnest. We will honor the Divine Mother, within and without, by choosing to use this potent time to create new intentional objects that will enhance our journey towards dharma. Make one for the Divine Mother within or make one for your human mother for Mother’s Day.

The Divine Mother is the aspect of God that is the creator. During this workshop, we will create a one-of-a-kind intention and vibration-infused hand-knotted mala necklace. Mala necklaces are used in meditation as a counter and physical focal point for your awareness. Malas contain 108 beads, one guru bead, and are knotted in between each bead. Each component of a Mala is loaded with symbolism that is intended to empower and activate both the conscious and subconscious mind for self-transformation.

We will begin with a guided meditation that will connect you to your heart’s desire, set intentions, design and assemble our customized malas, and finish with a deeply relaxing sound bath that will infuse your beads and body with pure frequencies that have been used in meditation for centuries.

The mala will become a vibrational anchor for your meditation practice and each time you wear it, it will resonate and root you into the vibration of your intention.

Cost: $50.00 + Materials*

*Caitlin will have “Mala Kits” available for participants to purchase that will vary in price from $10.00 - $30.00 depending on the stones. Students can also bring their own materials if they have a particular vision in mind. If students are purchasing their own supplies, these are recommended: Griffin No.6 Silk Cord, a tassel (optional), 108 beads (6mm or 8mm wide with 1mm holes (minimum)), and one larger bead for the guru bead.

**All students must enroll at least 24 hours in advance. If less than 5 students enroll, Siddhi Yoga reserves the right to cancel the workshop and refund all enrolled students.

Little and Me Yoga

Get your family up and moving for Little & Me yoga!

Join other tots (and their grown-ups) for a gentle sequence and discover how to share space with your Little while practicing mindfulness. This workshop will help adults learn to spend time in meditation while simultaneously managing the needs of energetic youngsters. Little and Me Yoga is an opportunity for tots to observe the adult relationship with self-care, stillness, and mindfulness while participating in a group activity including basic poses, simple breath work, and fun music. This workshop is appropriate for mom or dad and their little ages 6 months to 3-years-old.

We often micromanage children (yes, we all do it). This workshop aims to create an environment for adults and children to co-exist as equals as we explore the benefits of yoga both for the body and mind. Littles will be allowed to flex their independence and grown-ups will be encouraged to observe, rather than interfere.

Finally, this workshop is designed to impart that true meditation happens in everyday moments, on and off the mat. We will strive to recognize how powerful it can be to find peace and stillness in the present, to acknowledge it in the most joyful of moments, and to discover it when your small human is running down the aisle at Target threatening to break $700 jars worth of pasta sauce.

Cost: $25 (price covers mom/dad + 1 Little)

Sound Healing Through the Elements

While in Nepal, Jake Stancato had the opportunity to write and practice guided meditations with the sound of singing bowls, focusing on the five sacred elements. He uses hand finished Tibetan singing bowls, Tingsha, and a Gong to transport your consciousness to a more balanced state in line with nature, using bowls specially tuned to the specific note associated with each of the seven main chakras in the body. He is a practiced guide able to bring life back into balance by focusing on different fundamental aspects of the elements with his voice as well as the sounds associated with them.

This five-week series will explore each of the five natural elements with the use of sound healing, meditation, and nāda, the Universal sound vibrations. Classes will be held every Sunday evening, 6:00-7:15pm, on the following dates:

2/17
2/24
3/3
3/10 (cancelled due to construction)
3/17

Cost: $20/class; $85/full 5-week series

*Please register by visiting the MindBody Desktop site only (the MindBody App does not allow registration unfortunately).

Jake Stancato Head Shot.jpeg

In the summer of 2017, Jake had the pleasure of experiencing a sound bath with Tibetan singing bowls and gongs in Maui, Hawaii. He immediately had the desire to learn this beautiful and transformative healing technique. He put the idea in the back of his head and told himself that if he ever had the opportunity to learn, he absolutely would. In the spring of 2018, he found himself in Nepal specifically to learn from a master he had found through word of mouth. He ended up in Nepal for over 4 months studying and practicing the art of Nāda Yoga. He learned philosophy and the principles behind the concept that we are all sound vibrations (nāda).

Yoga 414: An Introduction to Yoga

As part of an ongoing series of workshops, Yoga 414 will be an introduction to various aspects of the popular (and unpopular) yoga practice to help beginning and advanced students alike understand what to expect on their yoga mats in a public class setting. If walking into a yoga studio still seems intimidating to you, this will demystify the practice, the language, the poses, and the myths behind it.

This introductory session will take time to walk students through typical public classes, expectations, what props are and how they can be used, negotiating the space of the studio, other students, the language of yoga, and more. It will be treated as an open forum to come and meet other students, ask questions (big or small), and begin to build comfort around and on the yoga mat.

Please come prepared with any questions you've been dying to ask about yoga and what it is, wear comfortable clothes, and have an open mind. Please bring your yoga mat if you have one, and all students of all levels are invited to participate, join in the discussion, and learn.

Winter Solstice Candlelight Flow

Winter Solstice Candlelight Flow

The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day of the year and the longest night as the Northern Hemisphere makes its foray into darkness before the days slowly begin to lengthen. While it certainly signifies the beginning of a long, cold winter, historically, it has been viewed as a celebrated and auspicious time of the year.

As the sun disappears in the folds of darkness for its longest resting period below the horizon, it was believed that this symbolized a period of rebirth. The moon is suspended in the crystalline chilled skies as the Goddess of the universe, imparting the feminine energy of regeneration, renewal, and reflection, and eventually giving birth to the sun once again after blanketing us with her charged vitality. The Solstice is a time of quiet introspection to discover your true identity with that of the divine energy of the universe and to cultivate your own inner light and fire to carry through the darkened months ahead.

In celebration of this movement into night, you will be guided through equal parts of a candlelit slow, dance-like, gently heated vinyasa class to warm and inspire physical presence, and a reflective meditation afterward to dive into the lunar feminine energy of rebirth. The heated vinyasa class will be 30 minutes and the guided meditation will be 30 minutes, ending with a long, sleep-like savasana for full relaxation.

Gently Heated Vinyasa Class: 30 minutes
Guided Meditation: 30 minutes
Relaxation: 15 minutes

Fall Equinox Heated Flow

Fall Equinox Heated Flow

The Fall Equinox represents a moment in the Earth's rotation of absolute cosmic equanimity, dividing night and day into two almost perfect halves. It is from this point of balance that the Northern Hemisphere begins to retreat from the warmth of the sun, marking an end to summer and the impending start of winter.

As the Fall Equinox unfolds, bringing with it cooler, dryer temperatures, the Northern Hemisphere surrenders its lush growth to return to the inner heat of the planet, falling in reflection of impermanence. As the macrocosm of the natural cycle represents the microcosm of our internal environment, it is a time to store internal heat, regenerate our resources, and let go, shedding that which is no longer nourishing.

In celebration of this fleeting moment of poise between the light and the dark, you will be guided through equal parts of a powerful heated vinyasa class to stoke the inner fires in preparation for the cooler winter temperatures and a grounding meditation afterward to contemplate the microcosmic transition from the bright energy of summer to the slow energy of winter. The heated vinyasa class will be 30 minutes and the guided meditation will be 30 minutes, ending with a long savasana bathed in aromatherapy and gentle massage to saturate the senses into deep relaxation.

Heated Vinyasa Class: 30 minutes
Guided Meditation: 30 minutes
Aromatherapy & Gentle Massage: 15 minutes
