The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day of the year and the longest night as the Northern Hemisphere makes its foray into darkness before the days slowly begin to lengthen. While it certainly signifies the beginning of a long, cold winter, historically, it has been viewed as a celebrated and auspicious time of the year.
As the sun disappears in the folds of darkness for its longest resting period below the horizon, it was believed that this symbolized a period of rebirth. The moon is suspended in the crystalline chilled skies as the Goddess of the universe, imparting the feminine energy of regeneration, renewal, and reflection, and eventually giving birth to the sun once again after blanketing us with her charged vitality. The Solstice is a time of quiet introspection to discover your true identity with that of the divine energy of the universe and to cultivate your own inner light and fire to carry through the darkened months ahead.
In celebration of this movement into night, you will be guided through equal parts of a candlelit slow, dance-like, gently heated vinyasa class to warm and inspire physical presence, and a reflective meditation afterward to dive into the lunar feminine energy of rebirth. The heated vinyasa class will be 30 minutes and the guided meditation will be 30 minutes, ending with a long, sleep-like savasana for full relaxation.
